GOOSE BREEDING THREAD - for breeding, incubating, hatching and rearing.

Getting back to goose breeding....the 3 goslings that hatched under the duck are with the goose, and the duck has hatched out 4 more goslings today, which are now in my house. They´re been with the goose today, and she´s been fine with them all, but when I went down there this evening the poor tinies were outside her barrel in a shivering little heap, while the 5-days-old ones were all cuddled up in her wings, so the tinies are indoors for tonight, then Ill try them out with her again tomorrow. No rain due until Sunday, so I have 2 more days to get her to look after them. silly goose.....Meanwhile I think there could be 2 more to come, but not sure. Those are still with the duck. Faint noises. Maybe more development tomorrow. Maybe too weak to hatch.
All the goslings from these matings (auto-sexing x pied goodness-knows-what) are interesting. They´re pretty much the wild colouring, but they seem to all have a greater degree of yellow on them than the normal wild-colour, for example on the wings..and there´s also a hint of saddle-back in the shading which I haven´t seen on my others (not like pom though). I´m looking forward to seeing how they feather up. And with these I can´t tell if they´re males or females either...the down does vary a bit in shade, but nothing very noticeable. Some feet have turned darker, and one has more orange feet. So interesting.

I haven´t washed it, my hubby´s nursing it and he wants me to leave it alone, as it looks clean and i want it to dry up, although it´s still been weeping, poor little soul. I like hubby being involved with them, so I have to let him have a say!

My main concern is that it has no "fuel"(yoke) as I´m pretty sure that´s what the goose has "cleaned"! Silly goose! I have some stuff here for cleaning, though, and I´ll use it if it pulls through. If it gets strong enough to lift its head I´ll try to feed it some slops.

As regards the muscovy, I´d like to leave her with one or two, I know 2 would be better, but I think she´ll take them to eat muscovy things, not goose things...bugs not grass......And, the other thing is that the geese know they´re goslings and I think the ganders will try to steal them from her.
Do you remember that she hatched out the singleton gosling a couple of weeks back when I wasn´t expecting it and when I arrived home I found the gander looking after it? Well, I´m sure that´s what would happen.

But maybe I´ll leave her with the last egg or 2, and keep a very close eye on the situation.
Well, the little one died, the goose accepted the 3, and the duyck hatched out 4 more. all 7 are now with the goose. Here they are:

Sorry to hear about the little one, but congrats on all the other newest additions. Precious picture!!

Oh, and yesterday I spotted....angel wing! Bother! Very strange because they´re on pasture and eat just the tiniest bit of chick-crumb mixed with cracked corn for breakfast, just for a treat., so the protein can´t be too high.....So, now it´s just grass and greens........ three out of the six auto-sexings have it, all in the left wing, so I now have 2 gals and a laddie wandering around with a pretty tag (wrapping!)

The other 3 have no sign. Oh, what a song and dance when I let one little female walk off with her new bling! Falling around, making a lot of noise, so funny.....drama queen indeed! It´s all forgotten now.
