GOOSE BREEDING THREAD - for breeding, incubating, hatching and rearing.

Hey guys, my little baby isn't such a baby anymore! She's starting to feather and is the best pet ever! Can't wait to get her into the big diapers though. She's growing too fast for any of the baby ones. I've given up trying to guess what she's a mix of... All I know is that she's smart and sooooooo loving. Started growing fodder in 5 grow trays, each 2 days apart so there's a constant supply. We've been going on nightly walks, to the park and on outings... They love it.

Goose hugs.... Always wrapped around my neck when she's in my lap. Something tells me I'm going to regret that when she's 30 pounds or so lol

Passed out after a walk tonight :)

She's so tuckered out. Sleeps like a baby!
At one of the local parks this week.

They follow their respective "mom" without hesitation, but are the best of friends.
They are adorable.

Thank you Seminole! Harper, the guy I got the eggs from swears he has 4 breeds in free range. Pilgrim, Chinese, Sebastepol, and Embden. She's gigantic. I mean a good solid bit bigger than anything we hatched from the guy, even ones we know were boys cause we saw a penis and hatched the same day. I'm thinking maybe she's got some Embden in her.. I thought it was Pilgrim, but all the real feathers coming in are different colored than the fluff. Thought that grey turned brown and yellow white... But that's not the case with these guys. So I haven't the slightest clue lol Thought they were Chinese at first cause her beak was really high. I've come to terms with not knowing until after a year.

She's definitely got Chinese in her.

Spattered with blood? I've never had a laying bird so I'm asking if that is normal?

Yes, that is very normal for a 1st egg.

Yep

they are the ones im actually waiting for haha are your geese laying?!

I am pretty sure my africans are starting to lay, but I have not yet checked for nests since I do not plan to gather eggs from them. My dewlaps probably won't start for at least another 1-2 weeks.

Yes its normal for the first egg to have blood on it. Like a woman giving birth for the first time, things stretch and tear.
Congrats! Can't wait to see the new little babies :)

Yea, Solar, that's a huge goose!
She'll be 4 weeks on the 1st... Hoping the growth spurt slows down lol

She's definitely got Chinese in her.
Super excited to see how she turns out! I was worried about the noise if she was Chinese before, but not anymore... Could deal with honking no problem, she's my doll.

Such a cutie and she is loving on you. This is going to be a big goose are you sure it is a female?

I probably wont incubate any until mid march unless the weather starts warming up. My first hatch last year was April 18th.
Right now i need to figure out which one laid the egg lol i have 7+ young females that it could belong to so im going to have to try to catch them in the act.
