GOOSE BREEDING THREAD - for breeding, incubating, hatching and rearing.

Your gander sets on your eggs!
Are you sure it aint a goose?!

After watching him for 4 years I would have to say he is a gander and no he is not laying egg's as I did separate him several years ago and marked all the egg's before going under him and never has he produced an egg and after he is finished with a goose he has his" thing a hanging" ....

When i tryed to sex my goslings (which were 8 ) and i sexed them as all females haha and i lnew i was wrong and i was because i had 3 males and 5 females and i didnt see the difference.
I think the best breed to try and sex to practise is a male embden gosling because you know its a male from start so then you can and try and see how to do it and if you dont see the penis then your doing it wrong because you know its male
That´s exactly how I intend to learn this year, with my little pilgrims-types.

Haha, no doubt then. As I said already, ganders will brood eggs. They´re mostly not as reliable as the goose, but they will do it. One of mine started brooding the eggs as she laid them, so I got a rather staggered hatch!

Yes I have just such a staggering hatch problem with him as he only moves when one of the geese want's in the lay an egg ....
Well you´ll just have to hope that the goose will sit tight (or the gander) until all the eggs have hatched. Most likely the gander will get off to look after the tiddler once the first one hatches, then you´ll just need to keep an eye that the goose doesn´t abandon the nest and leave the others to go cold. Just be vigilant.......
