They are just such good looking geese. I know how you feel about taming them. I have three Toulouse that I got at 4 week old and even though they are bonded with me as the bringer of food and release into free range. They will not let me touch them except when I need to catch one of them to move them back to their pen. Of course that make me the bad guy and not the friend. When I let mine out to range and they take off running into the field with their wings extended it is one of the most beautiful sights you can imagine. Never though of it as sailing ships but it really is sort of that.Oh I love my buffs. Full disclosure they're the only ones I've ever had and I like other geese, but the way the buffs move and look it;s like I have sailing ships moving through my yard.
Part of me wishes I'd "tamed" some because some days I want nothing more than to pat that head and stroke the fluffy neck.
Without losing a finger or a nose...
I think maybe to take the sting out of being "the bad guy" every night, is to catch/corral them and cuddle with them and keep them calm and talk in a soothing voice while you hide their head in your armpit or neck. Gentle scritches on the neck/shoulders.They are just such good looking geese. I know how you feel about taming them. I´ve read a number of times, but I can´t remember where, that waterfowl present fewer probs with interbreeding. Not sure how to navigate and post so this may be way out of place and time.
If a person bought two geese and they turned out to be male and female, should you let them breed since they are likely siblings? Or does it matter with geese or chickens too?
Have you been here? i have a very hard time telling African from Brown Chinese but this may help. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/533413/the-african-and-chinese-goose-threadCan someone please tell me what breed these are? The feed store owner thought Toulouse but after looking at this site I am wondering African or Chinese? The males personality fits that described of an African gander.
The first pic is of the goose.I have lost track of their age but they are young, got them early this spring.

What temperature and humidity does everyone have their incubator on when incubating Pilgrim Geese?
