I wonder when my girl is going to start laying ??? This is her first season, she won't even be a year old until May 5th. But she should be laying soon, shouldn't she? Do I need to give her a nest box or...???
Thanks

Yes you want to give her a nest box. You want to make the perfect scenario just in Case they want to

Here is what has happened over the last 5 days or so.

I took them from the nest because yesterday it was near 80 degrees, today we will be lucky to get out of the 40's and next week we are looking at the 20's for 2 or 3 days. Neither of the females have indicated any interest in sitting on the nest. In fact they have taken to flying over their fence into the big field and grazing all day. Probably need the extra energy after laying these monsters. All I can say is OUCH!!! Also, I just put 29 Cayuga eggs in the incubator and I can only deal with so many little ones (assuming they hatch). If they continue laying like this and hiding them in their nest I may just leave some there and see what they do next month.

Sounds like a good plan! My geese eggs are the biggest eggs I have ever gotten! My turkeys laid big eggs but they are small in comparison!

Mightymax I have seven females all Embdens and they wont be a year old until June and i believe three of them have started laying already, eggs are just a bit small but thats expected for the first time around. Also Ive discovered that if you free range your geese they will choose where they wish to lay their eggs. Mine are penned up at night in their run and have four nesting boxes to lay in, somedays i will find eggs in those boxes but more often then not i find eggs in the two nest they made themselves outside the run. Hope that helps some. KWSRetMSgt
