My goose can't walk. She's 22 pounds of embden goose. I got her yesterday and she was walking fine. I woke up and she couldn't walk. I'm so worried. Her feet look fine, and she's healthy. I'm just worried. Help?

Yes - some more details would be helpful. Hard to help without any.

Age
Type of feed YOU feed her
Type of food THEY fed her
Is she alert? Lethargic?
Is she pooping? What does it look like?
Condition of her feathers?
Condition of her feet and legs?
Condition of her eyes/beak/nares?
Describe her previous home.
Describe her new home with you- where does she sleep, what kind of bedding, is it a coop/house and enclosed...
How is her behavior over all?

Can you attach a couple pictures?

Can we get an update?

Sorry for th lack of details, I was busy busy all day yesterday and could only sneak a moment of computer time, my iPhone don't work very well on BYC, they should really make and app, eh?

Age - 2 and a half years old, she actually hatched out 5 of he own babie this spring.

Type of feed YOU feed her - I feed them mash (chicken scratch) with rolled barly and oats (50/50) and a little bit of chick grower. They also get open ranged with my supervision.

Type of food THEY fed her - Chicken scratch and chick starter for her babies.

Is she alert? Lethargic? - Allert as can be, I have to pick her up to move her to a new spot of grass and even before I'm 15 feet away from her she hissing and trying to run away.

Is she pooping? What does it look like? - Pooping up a storm, ew. It's normal goose poo, little watery but I think it's just because she really didn't eat much the first day here.

Condition of her feathers? - Little dirty, she was in a barn since spring without being outside but he feathers are okay. Now though she seems to be pulling them out, from her back and I don't know why. I clean it and everything but the skin isn't ripped, just swollen.

Condition of her feet and legs? - Massive feet, never seen a goose this big before. No bumble foot, not cuts, don't look swollen, moves fine. The left one she don't use very much, I think she twisted it on the way home.

Condition of her eyes/beak/nares? - Eyes, fine. Beak, little scared but good. Nares? No idea what that is but she looks fine aside from the being so fat I cant almost lift her.

Describe her previous home. - Little barn, no swimming, lots of food, no grass, had her mate and he 5 babies in a 15 ft by 8 ft space.

Describe her new home with you- where does she sleep, what kind of bedding, is it a coop/house and enclosed... - She lives in my garage right now, on straw mixed with shavings (pine) because I'm out of straw. She gets out (I carry the fatty into the yard with much honking and flapping) so she can get some sun and eat some grass, I also put her in a kiddy pool do she can splash for half and hour each day.

How is her behavior over all? - She seems healthy but animals can his sickness, she trys to follow he gander and babies around the yard but can't move very well, she's grumpy at me all the time and eats like a horse now.

Can you attach a couple pictures? - Ill try but putting pictures up it hard :(

A niacin deficiency maybe? Waterfowl need more niacin (a vit b) than chickens need and it sounds like she has basically been fed a chickens diet and no grass where she was previously either. Maybe someone can correct me or offer some more but It seems like the most frequent not walking right cases are linked to a niacin deficiency.

You can add it to her water. Their water. Won't harm the others. Some geese/ducks are more sensitive to not having enough than others. You want to pick up niacin that is no flush and no time release kind. Just plain niacin tabs. Crush it up and add it to their drinking water. I will get you a link in a few minutes.

Do you have the tapatalk app? It's what I use to access BYC from my iPhone. :)

Excuse my typos. Sent from my iPhone.
