Goose eggs 7 days candling...

Anytime they get busted like that before an internal pip they die...Sorry your wasting your time ..:hmm...

The humans involved have all been as carefull as possible, and I’m the one wasting my time with it, so no worries there! I figured they are a long shot, but that it doesn’t hurt to try, there were no cracks, they were fairly settled looking in the nest... I’m a hopeless optimist sometimes when it comes to certain things! But I don’t trust the raccoons were careful when they raided

I really do appreciate all the advice, I’ll try cleaning them up some at the next turning, and see if I can see anything better next time... @Pyxis linked me some great info when I asked about cleaning them up a bit, and recommended just the dry cloth, but at this point I’m a little less hopeful, and willing to risk doing a wet wipe if it will help me get better candling details.

Cleaning some of the mud off should help you be able to see better in there. A wet cloth is fine and won't hurt :) I often use a damp cloth on mine if I get some that are really dirty and a dry cloth just isn't cutting it.

Geese can be hard to candle. Their shells aren't nearly as easy to see through as duck eggs, and I've had eggs that I though had nothing going on suddenly have a visible embryo on day ten before.

Do you know how long the goose was on the eggs before the nest was abandoned? Just trying to figure out what day of incubation these eggs would be on :)

I’m willing to give them at least one more week, but then I want to go back to a normal sleep pattern if they aren’t viable... right now I’ve been staying up to midnight, then getting up between 3-4 to switch battery banks, then 6:30-7 actual wake up. The incubator draws a lot more than my heat plates for my chicks :hmm very sleepy

Ok, here they are cleaned up some... this is at 10 days in the incubator. I’m thinking they are dead. But again, never tried goose eggs. I can’t really afford the power for the incubator if they are. Left egg: air sac is very clear on the sideways shot, and the dark mass is stationary, no visible veins.

Right egg: almost looks like a clear chicken egg from some angles, but there is a bit of a dark mass again, stationary, no veins I can see, this one is easier to see into.

The only thing that sort of gives me any pause is these dark spots here...

I’m not experienced enough to say 100% that they are quitters or duds to start with. So I’m reaching out to all you more experienced folks here. Thanks for the help!

The other day I was cleaning my aquarium of guppies. Some of the little babies got sucked up in my gravel cleaner I'm sure, but I didn't look. I just threw the dirty water out and didn't look. Maybe it's time to throw the eggs out and don't look... :hugs
