I have a young (11 month old) american goose. Some of you may remember last weekend when she was having 'problems'?? She was acting very sensitive, not walking well and kinda droopy. She had been laying 'pullet'-sized eggs, and on Sunday (day after I noticed her acting this way) she laid an egg that was roughly twice as big as the ones she normally laid. The bigger one that she laid on Sunday is the size of a normal goose egg, her usual eggs are small. She has been laying like 3 weeks? 4 weeks? so I assume this is normal.

Anyway, she has not laid one egg since the huge one on Sunday. She is not broody, or if she is, she is not broody 'right'. She has gotten very protective of her nest area, but we've left the last 2 eggs in it, when we were picking them up daily.

Any idea why she would suddenly stop? She's only laid like 12 or 13 eggs, so I wouldn't think she'd be done for the season already? Before this, she was laying daily or every-other day. It was like she would lay one day, skip a day, then lay 2 days, skip a day, then again one day and skip a day, and so on.

I'm at a loss here, she is my first goose and is giving me fits!

I am hardly an expert on geese. This is my first season with them also. Mine are laying about every other day. Sometimes they will skip for two days. Kind of hard to know who is laying what tho, becuase I have 3 that are laying. My one goose that is broody now seemed like she quit laying really early to go broody.

I also have a one year old who stopped laying already. I think that it is normal for 1st time layers to only lay 10-20 and then stop... or so I've been reading. I was getting regular sized eggs from my Becky every other day then she went 4 days with no egg then laid one small egg and its been about 4 or 5 days and still no eggs from her. I think she is done. I think it also depends on the breed as some lay more than others.

I also have a one year old who has stopped already. She laid only 6 eggs and hasn't shown any more interest in laying. I'm so baffled. And she's not broody either.

She was on her nest earlier, though I don't know if she laid. I would assume so, she was on it quite a while. But where it is, I can't get to it, and my son wasn't with me. I'll have to check tomorrow.
