Hello, I have a one year old Canada goose that started limping a couple of months ago. She walks on her tippy toes on one foot as the joint has completely seized in a straight position. Her beak is also white, bumpy, and flaky in parts. One part of her beak has tiny little holes in it like it has been pricked with a needle. We have brought her to several vets however they are not avian vets so have not been able to shed much light on the issue. She has been treated for worms and scaly leg and face mite. Both X-rays and bloods were taken however they showed up normal. Any ideas????

Can you get some Veterycin spray for infections and wounds you could try spraying her face especially at night when you put her to bed so she doesn't wash it off.

What is her diet? My water fowl are all adults but I still use Nutritional yeast on their feed 2X a week since I have had a few limping.

Wish I could help more.

Thank you for the replies. I currently soak her feet with Epsom salts however haven't noticed any scabs so don't think its bumblefoot. There is a cut on the bottom of her foot though. I feed her Nutrena Country Feeds All Flock 18% pellet. Do you know if this is a good feed? or what feed I should get instead? I was also feeding her spinach but have since stopped because most people say it isn't good for geese. Now she gets kale instead. Do you think I should be adding Nutritional yeast to her food? and if so how much? I will definitely try the Veterycin spray.

I think its in her joint, the way she holds/walks on her foot and its noticeably swollen. You can give her a half an Ibuprofen "mild pain killer" once a day to help with the pain. If her joint has seized up solid its irreversible. She will adapt and get along fine, she'll just limp a little. Keep up with antibiotics to stave off any infections for now. Keep her on a balanced diet as well. Its important she gets all the vitamins and minerals she need to keep healthy.

My vet actually gave me APO-MELOXICAM to give her at a 48kg dose every second day however I have been hesitant to give it to her as often as that due to the large dose. The vet said that geese require a much larger dose than dogs. Does anyone know if this is true? Should I stick with the Meloxicam or give her Ibuprofen instead? As for the balanced diet I have ordered Mazuri waterfowl maintenance feed and have been giving her nutritional yeast on her food. Is there anything else I could give her to ensure she gets all the vitamins and minerals needed.

Poultry do get a larger dose. How much does your goose weigh?
