Goose lovers – please help!!

Good morning, my friends. Spirit continues to steadily improve. Her appetite has returned and she is getting a little better with getting around. I was excited about putting her outside today, but I woke up to an email from my vet, stating that while I could take her outside with me for short periods of time, she is not to be left outside unsupervised until he gives clearance. At least we can expand the indoor pen to give her more space to move around.

Galgo, they used isoflurane for anesthesia and also injected her with pain medication before and after the surgery (do not remember what kind... not meticam, though). She is now receiving 1.5 cc 2x daily of meticam from me.

Ruru, how awful for your goose to have that accident, but wonderful that you went the extra mile to fix her leg!! And not to worry about Spirit being alone... Ember has been her "sacrificial companion" from day one. Poor thing.... but she loves Spirit very much and is the perfect companion.

It is so wonderful that Spirit has such a compainon like Ember. My lone gander (the third Troulouse) is fast making friends with the African crosses. The pair of Troulouse's stay by them selves perty much. I am suprised that all the AfricanX's are getting dewlaps and are filling out their lobs just beautiully. Last night that were with in 10ft of me looking for the corn. I can't wait for breeding season. What size of stall should I make for them in the barn? Or should I just leave them outside with all the snow?

I'd give them a choice that way they can decide for themselves if they want to be out in the snow or inside where it's out of the weather. just my 2 cents though. your talking about during the day right?

Yes mostly, I now people leave them outside 24/7 but they do have small huts in the pastures but with all the snow that we get I amlooking for inside 24hrs because of the water situation. That and I want to keep my Troulouse seperate for breeding as they are all together right now.

Triplell.....personally I wouldn't ever leave any birds outside 24/7. I am not willing to leave them on their own with predators and risking them being severely injured or killed.

I don't want to either, so how big do I need to make their stalls?I have 7 of them but like I said I want to keep the Troulouse seperate. I saw my female bred with its mate. I look every day for eggs and so far none and hopefully not until March.

Depends on how much space you have to give. The bigger the better, I am not a fan of minimum space suggestions.
Thansk Celtic I will do just that but I do need to know the minimum space for 2 so I can make room for three pens and make sure that they are larger than the mimimum.

Are you talking about building houses in the pastures, or building stalls in a secure barn?

Buildings should be 4' deep, min, 5' wide and 5' high this is based on a pair and having daily turn out. i wouldnt ever expect a goose to spend all day inside even in winter.

Stalls (if the barn is predator proof) can be half walls with gates/doors on the front. Some of our open stalls are 4' wide and 10' deep with 4' high walls. We can split them in half by adding hinged walls/door between making two 4' x 5' as needed.
