Goose - What is this, how did it happen, what do I do about it?

Oh my goodness H, another egg? wow I'd deff keep up the calcium with her till you know for sure she has laid all those that were backed up. Bless her heart.

My thoughts exactly, I now know why I found a one pound mass in my hen's uterus, it must have been multiple eggs that were stuck there.

This post is the best one that I have ever seen on egg binding. In the future, whenever I see someone needing help with egg binding, this is the first link I will point them to. I really think that many will learn lots from this thread.
Maybe mods would consider putting this in the sticky?

There wouldn't have been a post if it hadn't been for you and everyone else! I am serious here, this was a group effort if I ever saw one.

I did add something new today to her care, so will have to edit my list. She has had her first long soak today and afterwards I broke a 400IU vitamin E capsule and mixed it with the KY and put that on her. She is still protruding so I think there may be another egg there. It's not as swollen as yesterday, or as hard, so it may be another rubber egg [that's what her second one was last evening].

Her spirits seem quite good. She's not really happy to be away from her flock but is resigned to it for now. I really think it's the spa facilities that have changed her mind, lol.

You're right, it was a great group effort, but ever now and then, I come across a single post in a thread that will help so many people, and yours is one of those.

I hope it can help someone else! Maybe at least alleviate some of the fears. That's a good thought and I'm going to hang onto it, thank-you for everything.

Update. Almost 5 days now since I first found this problem with Lucy.

She is doing very well! If there is any swelling left, it is not really visable. No more eggs at this point and she isn't having the clear discharge any longer. I think we have turned a corner here. She is still not eating as well as I would like but she is drinking a lot and eating some. Lucy is still residing in the dog crate in my livingroom at this point. The day and night temps. are too severe to take her back to the duck/goose house until there is a warm up. I am hoping that by the end of this weekend, she will be able to go back out with her flock, even though she will still be confined to the dog crate for another week.

Tonight is the first time I don't feel the need to put anything on her nether regions, either honey or KY and Vitamin E mixed. I'll see how she looks in the morning and see if this was the right decision to make. Lucy is down to one bath per day now and I have noticed she doesn't seem to want or need the extended time in the water she needed before this. She is quite content to watch TV while relaxing in her crate, lol. She has also started talking again and is taking great pleasure in telling my young hatched ducks to shut up shutting up, lol. She needs her beauty rest and isn't afraid to demand it. Life is good!
