Hi our pet goose hurt himself. He's less than a year old pilgrim

A few weeks ago during the molt we thought he knocked a new feather with blood in the sheath against the tree in their pasture. They like to run around and flap several times a day.

We checked him over, there was only a little blood, and we didn't see any obvious injury. He uses it, eats, and drinks just like normal. It seemed to heal or close up.

Today it seemed to break open again. It was a lot more bloody, there's a thick clot, and we can't see the exact spot. We cleaned it, trimmed some feathers to see it better, and let him back in the yard while we make a plan.

Someone says we should remove the broken feather shaft. I'm worried about hurting our damaging his tissue further.
