Hi,
I have 6 geese three adult and three younger geese that were born this past season. My Male goose has been wondering around away from the rest for a while now, he strays very far from the rest of the geese and is recently always dirty, he doesn't seem to bathe often at all. I have been wondering if maybe he was sick. Today I got the chance to catch him and look him over. (btw he has had major "poopy butt" for awhile also) He seems to have some kind of small white worms all around is bum. There are tons! I dipped his bum and tried to use a little brush to get some of them off, it worked a little. Just wondering if anyone knows what this is. I've googled it and keep coming up with so many diff types.... help please!

it could be maggots, there is a name for it but I forget what it is. they can get maggots internally. I really don't know much about geese but you may want to treat for worms. I think Ivermecton is safe for gees. it can e used on chickens. if I can find the article I read on maggots I will get back to you, Hopefully someone that knows more will post soon

Thank you! One lady said something about Fly strike. It's most common in Rabitts though... idk I'm running this farm for my mother and I haven't been doing so grand at it. I'm just really worried so thank you I will see if I can find Ivermecton

They just do not look like maggots! They are like a centimeter or so long and very thin

TSC carries generic Ivermectin (cattle pour on) that works for poultry for many types of parasites. It's around $15 per bottle (big bottle that should last a while) & is much cheaper than the brand name Ivomec. Generic Ivermectin at TSC is in the livestock meds section & may be locked in the med cabinet. If you don't see it, just ask for it. It's in a red & yellow box.

I actually found some Ivermectin in the house so everyone is being wormed thanks so much everyone!

Worms cannot survive outside the host. Most likely maggots.
I have seen worms sticking to the rears of both cats & dogs & survive for quite a while so I don't see why it would be any different in a bird. These sound too long & thin to be maggots.
