Goslings? Nope Ducks.

I guess we can't tell their sex apart, can we? Is there a method to sex them? That man told us that the yellow one was a girl and the brownish one was a boy. I can't trust him since he said they were goslings. What do you think?

Here's a video of them both eating and our little yellow bug is also taking a shower.

If they grow up to become like the ducks in my previous post what breed would they be?
They are adorable.

Well I went back to the person who sold us the ducklings yesterday but he wasn't there. His son was there instead who was present when we purchased the ducklings the other day. I explained to him what happened and he said that his father had probably made a mistake as they didn't have any goslings 3 weeks ago when we bought ours and that he might have sold us Muscovy ducks. But he still wasn't sure about them. Well he should have corrected his father when he heard him selling us the ducklings for goslings.

He charged us 10 euros more per duckling (which is alomost 25 $). Anyway he wasn't willing to give me my money back but he offered to take them back next week when there will be goslings available and give us 2 goslings instead, but we don't intend to give them back. We've loved them and they've loved us I think. They start peeping when they see us approaching their pen and they want to be patted.

Now talking about their sex, I guess we'll have to wait a couple of weeks more to hear what their voices will be. The yellow one who was almost half the size of the brown one when we brought them home, has grown as big as the brown now and is much more "noisy" than the brown one. Will there be a problem if both of them are drakes? I mean is there a chance that they will start fighting?

Thanks so much again for the help!

Wow! You can get Muscovy day olds here for $3.50 from an actual breeder who shows his stock (though definitely not the ducklings from his winning group).

I think the most I've seen a Muscovy go for around here was $10 total - and they would be old enough to sex. Goslings are another story. Minimum for goslings seems to be $10 for basic breeds like Pilgrim. I paid $50 a piece for my two buff Toulouse, but they are from national champion stock. The breeder doesn't normally sell goslings, but I pestered him. I wanted the bond! lol

I think he should at least give you more birds if not refund your extra $ put to the purchase. That's what I would do. Some people are just greedy!

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forums. We bought 2 goslings from a man who was selling poultry 3 weeks ago. He said they were goslings but I doubt it and I think we've been fooled and they are ducklings instead. What do you think?

These are muscovies as the hook at the end of the bill is a characteristic of the breed.Im muscovies the drakes hiss and the females kinda peep and they will be half the size of the males and the males will have very thick legs.

When we bought them the yellow chick was almost half the size of the brown one. Now it's growing faster and has become almost bigger than the brown one. Could that be telling me anything about their sex? I think I'll be going back next week asking him for one more duckling instead.

Do you know if he keeps his breeds separate? They could be mixed, and if they are mixed with muscovy, they would be mules (ie: Sterile). No eggs from the girls, and no sperm from the boys.

I don't know if he has got their parents but I think that he buys the eggs and hatches them in an incubator so they must be purebred muscovies. They were in a seperate cage from the other ducklings and in greek they are called goose-ducks so that's where he fooled us. We asked for goslings and he sold us these ducklings for goslings.

I'll be posting pictures as they are growing to get your opinions on them.

Thank you all so much again, you've been amazing at making things clear about the whole thing!

Muscovies are kind of a species all their own. Not really geese and not really ducks. I would say it's like this: A duck is a horse, a muscovy is a donkey. When they breed, they create a mule. :)

I really love muscovies though. They are a very nice duck. Hopefully you get a pair or two girls. Do you keep chickens?

No chickens, at least not yet.

We got these ducklings as pets. They are lovely and very sweet natured. I only hope that they don't grow to be drakes both them cause I read somewhere that 2 males might start fighting. How do I choose a female duckling if I have to get a third one? I don't trust the person who sold these to us anymore.
