Goslings of 2014 Hatch-a-long

Went in to clean Missy and Sams house and saw # 18 laying out from under it's cover of shavings nasty as all get out so decided to bring it in to test for fertility, now Missy has not been brooding she may go in for an hour once a day and she does sit on them at night, some days she isn't in there at all. but when I opened this egg up ya'll it had veins so it had started to develop. I thought they had to be brooding 24/7 before they started to develop. It did make me feel badly. She laid #27 this morning before daylight. so she laid 2 eggs a day apart.
Miss Lydia.. depending on the temperatures your having she may not need to be on the nest much. The eggs just need to average close to 99.

Woke up to happy surprises in the incubator this morning!

The ducklings came out of khaki campbell eggs, so I guess I need to have a serious sit down talk with my cayuga boys!

Any guesses as to gosling? I have Embden/Chinese, Embden, Toulouse, Toulouse/Chinese, and one African/Embden, and one Seb/tufted roman.

I like these kinds of mornings and Reece the Terrible finally has a buddy!

Just a wild guess... Sebbie??

I have shared about the Canada pair that has tried for 2 yrs to nest on an island in out Mountain river with out success because her nest get flooded, well this yr they have out done them selves. They hatched 6 goslings sometime from yesterday till today. and they all look great. Now if they can keep them safe from preds and rising water. I am so happy for this pair.

That´s great MLyd, what lovely news! You´ll be enjoying them for a while then. Rising water shouldn´t be too much of a problem now for them. Let´s hope for the best! And Missy is....?

We've had a few days of around 78 but mainly still into 40 at night and 50-60 daily.
Sorry, MLyd, I posted in response to the other post of yours, but didn´t see that Missy is Messing. What a shame! Maybe she doesn´t have enough of a 'maternal' instinct? Any ducks gone broody hyet? I have two here...one on just 2 eggs that I left her and the other on feet! Shame she can´t hatch out Missy´s eggs for her. I can´t imagine the eggs are any good if she´s not sitting on the at night......Can you candle any to see if there´s life in any of them?

And Congrats on the new gozzy.

Is this the "official" hatching thread of 2014? I haven't been on BYC much lately, so I'm very behind.

I have a question for those of you that let your geese (specifically Sebs) hatch their own eggs. While I was on vacation, my mom was too intimidated (she's afraid of birds) to take the eggs from one of my Seb girls, so she's sitting on a nest of five eggs. I've never let any of my geese hatch their own eggs before. Is it safe to let her mate stay in with her? These two were pretty accepting when I introduced them to my American goslings last spring, so I'm leaning towards letting dad stay with her. What do you think?
