Goslings of 2014 Hatch-a-long

I thought so, but I get folks mixed up! Don´t your think Hennypenny´s gos looks like Halloween? so he was an Embden cross, wasn´t he?
Beautiful!
I´m sure they´ll be fine. Mine fly when they want to get somewhere quickly...loike down to the river, or wherever I am at the time. Curious critters. I´m sure yours will be fine. Is there anything in the direction of the road that they may want to go there for?
Yes he's an Embden/production Toulouse cross. Hennypenny's baby is adorable can't wait to see it all feathered out. On the flying thing.. I keep all my treats and everything away from the fence, there's no ponds or fields insight so they just stay home.

Thanks ladies.

I am going to try.

I need to find out how she got out, so it doesn't happen again! I feel terrible.

So sorry

News here is.... 3 new grey Dewlaps, 3 more eggs to go this week.

Thanks, everyone!! I was definitely happily surprised to see the buff girl since there is only a 25% chance of that pair producing buff females.

P, congrats on your continued dewlap success!! How many greys are you up to now? It appears you are hatching a lot of Jean Luc's babies. Go Jean Luc!

I have 3 out of 4 dewlap toulouse eggs that are internally pipped, chirping and rocking like crazy but still no external pip - today is day 28 - im hoping the 4th is just a slow poke and starts showing some action soon!

Seems like it takes forever for them to external pip, sounds like they are making progress. I know psue and 8 and Iain Utah can give you some pointers but I wouldn't get concerned yet especially if just day 28.

I've got 6 greys and some of the buff are out of that pair. I just quit seperating them at night as I thought 2 of the girls were done (they had tried to go broody) found 3 eggs in the nest this morning

. I've decided not to worry about it, I have enough marked to see how the babies from the pairs will look.

Dont be in a hurry 30 days is normal and 32 is not unusual. Out of my 6 Dewlap eggs due today ... 3 have hatched, 2 are externally pipped and one is still shadowing. My best advise at this stage is to candle any eggs not ext. pipped AFTER everyone else hatches. I've had eggs be 3 or 4 days behind even though they were all set at once.

Thank you psue! I am going to just leave them be til I see an external pip then start biting my fingernails haha. When I held them in my hand I could feel so much movement and an almost pecking/clicking noise

Lost my female gosling today.

Heart broken. She some how got out of the brooder and got trapped between it and the wall. I found her when I got home from work.

Brother goose is very sad. And still 20 days before hatch of the next eggs.

Any thoughts on how to help keep him happy?

My first goose, I raised alone for two years. She was easy. She started out alone. Now brother feels lost without sister.

I am so sorry for your loss, and baby boy's too! I like to cuddle mine, talk to them etc. I can see a mirror working, and wee wee wee-ing to him. I found a stuffed animal at goodwill, with not button eyes or any other loose things. Just wash it, and remove that stuff that a baby could pick off.
I didnt get to candle tonight, Maggie never came off the nest.
I did discover that Mildred had taken on a helper with brooding. I did NOT like that at all. So i evicted Rain from that position, she had taken 5 of mildreds eggs and her nest forcing Mildred to make a new nest with 3 of her eggs. Mildred being docile i was able to move her around like a suitcase lol and place her and her eggs back on her rightful nest.
I am so lucky that Bonnie allows me to reach under her. I only peeked this morning but no candling.
Now for my good news, I had to help the duckling as there was no progress since last night. The duckling was fine, and the shell was already separated. I put it back in with the chicken to finish the hatch, but it sounded like it was getting trampled. So, I pulled it out again and it was almost completely done. So I let the hatch end in my hand, and I am happy to report a healthy Cayuga colored mutt duckling is warming up on my chest!

I am hoping it is a boy.

Starfire my geese start flying at 5 months earliest but some take a month or two longer and some even a year so it depends but swan type geese rarely fly but can but its rare
