Goslings of 2014 Hatch-a-long

Yes serv, let us know how she is doing. I am going to have to be more vigalent since I saw a grey fox running through the field a couple of day ago. I didn't think that much about it because it seemed so small. but they are fast and could be across one of the runs with a bird in its mouth before I or my dogs could do anything about it.

We have both here grey and red and they can be quite bold, and can climb really good too.

Bold and clever. Now is time for me to double check my double check for perimeter security. I can't secure their range areas much more than what is already done but I can do a little tinkering with security. The clever fox, when he picks his dinner, clever kicks in and he will dig, climb, jump...all sorts of things to get to it. I have some overhanging trees I will have to deal with. So, I will spend some time trying to out fox the fox.

Good luck on that front. I know you'll do it. Mine are in side a good fence with bard wire but it still makes me nervous I pray for them daily. So far it's worked no more hawk attacks either since I put up the pred tape but it always looks like we're going to have a party with all the flashy tape hanging up blowing in the wind. What we do for our babies.

I hope serv has good news on his gander this morning and he isn't hurt too bad. Shock is worrisome too.

Me too. If it was a fox dragging the goose away there would of course be shock but there would/could also be some pretty serious injury. Fox teeth are pretty sharp and if it was dragging the goose by a leg or wing there could be some nasty cuts to deal with. Lets just hope for the best.

I've only seen 1 fox this year and it ran across the road into our property the. Heading down to the barn but we scared it away but my pens are solid the one with cement and wood and other is cement wood then fencing so a fox prob can't get it nor any others but i dont think a fox will go after my peas at all if anything my peas would kill it

How could your peas kill a predator with teeth nate, there is no way.

Ok the geese are all now still worried as soon as dark came especially the young one's that never seen a fox yet, and greylag geese are wild geese so they would be light indeed and the gander is in deep shock and the fox ripped open it's leg muscles so I put Swedish herb's on it and cleaned it and bandaged it up and he seems to be walking last time I saw him but not eating or drinking so he is in shock for sure I will keep ye updated.

nate, Miss Lydia is right. while a pea could do a lot to defend itself and its hen it would either be killed outright or mortally wounded by a fox. Google "can a peacock kill a fox" and check out what they say. Keep your peas safe just like you do all your other birds.
