i have a question.

how do i know if my gander Ollie is happy? i am still considering giving him back to the farmer where he came from. he is scared of me unless i have food. he runs from us and is obviously scared anytime we are around. i watch him out the window and he walks around and eats stuff off the ground and gets in the kiddy pool of there is one, but if he sees me watching him he stops and watches me like i am going to eat him. none of the ducks and certainly not Forest and Mandie are afraid of us. he is stuck with the ducks away from Forest and Mandie 98% of the time (unless we are outside with them) i dont trust any of the ducks or ollie around her. she is afraid and i have seen them peck at her. so mandie and forest are kept during the day with a divider of welded wire so they cant get forest or squish mandie, but can see each other.

is this a quality life for ollie being stuck with the ducks away from the geese? if i do decide to keep mandie outside and with ollie, will she pick up his bad traits of being scared? right now she acts imprinted and follows me around like a little duckling.
I like Linda's reply, although your the only one who can make the decision on whether to give Ollie back, I have to say not all geese are going to be climb in your lap geese, None of mine are although they will follow me around but touching them is out of the question and yes now my youngest gander is hissing at me, makes me sad because only 7 months ago I was cuddling with him and holding him, but I know this is their way and that's okay. I too would be worried about what Ollies fate might be if he went back to the farmer. Listen Sammy my Embden gander lived among Muscovy ducks for over 5 yrs before he even saw another goose except for the Canada that fly over head, He was one happy goose. As long as they enjoy being around me when I come outside I am happy, Missy is like Ollie she is the one who always stands off at a distance and watches me like I may at any moment pounce on her being raised for the first 4 months of her life with out hardly any human contact makes her this way. But I love her to pieces and wouldn't think of giving her away. Try to make exceptions with Ollie if you give him a chance he'll be a great gander for both of your girls, now he's going to want to mate with them because that's just natural so you'll have to be careful with Forest .

The way I treat bumblefoot is put a goose in a small dry place for it to rest and I wash the foot in very warm salty water and give it a bit of a massage twice a day and it works for me.
My sister(vet) also treats bumblefoot in many ways but at certain times she operates the foot up and gets rid of the pale fleshy stuff that causes bumblefoot. This is the fastest way.

Thanks serv similar to how I have done it here except I use Epsom salt to soak with. and colorless iodine after. Thank goodness I've never had to cut.

I have been doing a lot of thinking since i lost my best geese. I think ive come up with a plan and a new color breeding project. Ive decided im going to get a new Brown Chinese gander this spring for my white chinese girls to supply the demand for pied goslings.

My new color project, might be Tufted Toulouse with Tufted romans. If i cant find adults i might order goslings, 1 tufted roman gander(for my tufted girls) and a trio of tufted toulouse goslings. I hope i can find adults around here, goslings will be a last resort i dont think i can handle 4 goslings and a baby right now lol
