Got 4 new squeakers, and one may be sick--please advise

Barn and Hokum will know better but it looks within normal range to me. I would try to fatten her up, ... of course you are already doing that! :D I'm so jealous ...now you have 8 and a headlamp!

I HOPE my loft numbers stay at 8 and only increase! Fingers crossed. She isn't listless though, she scrambles around when I put my hands near her, but, different from the others, when I pick her up, she chills completely and lets me sort of soothe pet her head, etc, so I'm hoping that's only because she's tame and sweet and not because she is sick.

I have so many headlamps.... because every time I need one I cannot find one, so I just buy a new one and keep them in all my handy spots--one hanging from a coat hook in the mud room, one in my truck, one in my go bag, one in my duck hunting bag, the list goes on lol) And because of that, I always just buy the cheapo ones....

Ok, so my mom looked at the picture of it and said "OMG that is no big deal, I will give you some drops and she should be fine"..... so apparently I might be overreacting lol. But she isn't an avian vet, so I won't think we're out of the woods until I see improvement.

Maybe if I just wait a bit you'll be begging me to take some of your overflow...hah, JK.

Yeah!:clap
Be sure she's eating well if she's too thin.

Your mom is right. Sounds like she may have been more towards the bottom of the pecking order, or there were older hens chasing her away from the food. It could also explain why she is so tame. As to her eye, that could easily be a speck of dirt, or a bedding that agitated it while being caught, or transported.

I want to be the kind of person who needs a headlamp!:lau

Was the loft you got them from fairly clean?

Technically I did not go to the loft where these fellas came from, I picked them up from my friend who picked them up from the racer for me since I didn't have time. But I would imagine it was kept clean, this guy is a nut about his racers, he feeds them a crazy mix, which includes 4 different types of peas, one of which he bakes for them first, so I'd imagine if he's that detailed with the food they eat, he keeps the loft in a healthy condition.

Yes, that is a very good thought in regards to her tameness, and also the injury/infection. She was transported from the racer's loft to my friend's place where I picked them up in a drop basket type carrier. They weren't really crammed in there, but I saw them sort of sitting on top of each other from time to time (I notice pigeons sit on each other sometimes lol), so something as little as a toe nail to the eye could have caused it, or a peck from an old hen of course as well.... Keeping an eye on her. Medications on the way.

I do wonder when I can place her back in my loft with the others. Perhaps as soon as I see a bit of improvement in the eye?

I think my loft size will max out at about 15 birds, and I really have no need for any more than that in any event. Without many losses, and proper breeding, and assuming somewhat normal ratio of cock/hen, I would expect to be at that number easily by the fall or winter. I'd be more than happy to give you squeakers! Just don't know how the logistics would work. I'd imagine it would be cost prohibitive, and that you would have found a source to get good birds by then. BUT, I would be happy to give you squeakers when I have some to move!

Take some terramycin ointment

I was going to suggest that same isolation precaution and solution only marketed under a different brand name.

Consider yourselves wise (not that I ever doubted your wisdom).... My mom (a veterinarian) dropped off the medication she wants me to use, and it was none other than . . . . TERRAMYCIN :thumbsup

She says she does not necessarily know why the eye is cloudy like that, but she is confident it is not a big deal and should be treated well with this med.

Thank you guys!
