Got my Beehives today!

SamG - is that one you have a topbar hive? The one's I've seen so far have narrower bottoms than their tops. I really want to build one or two to start this spring. I like the look of yours though!

Yep I actually have two hives....just one put together for pictures. They are topbar hives...that use modified Langstroth frames for the topbars. And also can be fitted with langstroth honey supers on top.
My bees are coming April 5-7

Way cool! I want to get into bees eventually too, but so many questions.

Our first emphasis besides truck farming will be raising pasture poultry including guineas and muscovie ducks. These two birds are supposed to be great for bug control. But would they also wipe out the bugs you wanna keep, i.e., the bees?

Does anyone here successfully pasture guineas and muscovies with your hives?

Thanks.

Here is a forum I belong too.....many designs to pick from. I say research and design your own. I got these from a local beekeeper and friend.

And I got my bees from Hardeeman Apiaries in Georgia.

Bees are awesome! We have 2 hives and I cant wait for my sister to get down there and get the supers on. They are going crazy with all the wild flowers right now. We also have a shipment of bees coming in April to start a new hive and re-queen both the others. This is our first year but we started with established hives and they are pretty easy to maintain so far.

I'm soooo excited to get my packages and install them. Will probably install the bees in nothing more than some jeans and a long sleeve shirt. And of course my hat!

Anyone that is interested in learning how to keep bees, or further your own knowledge about bees, check out this site, it is a great, family friendly forum. A nice place to spend some time, even for you seasoned beekeepers. CynthiaM

My bee colonies: I started out with 2 packages of bees in April 2005, when you get that bee fever, watch out, so addictive. Think you are addicted to your barnyard critters, you ain't seen nuthin' yet, smiling.

I've been kept by bees since I was 9 years old. The one thing I always do is put on my veil. Being stung on the face is no fun.
