Got my "Employee Review" Back today....

I work in a truck brokerage. We have a fairly laid back dress code. Of course, if I came to work in a crop top and mini skirt, I'd be sent home to change. But I wear nice jeans or dress pants with a nice top every day because, I too, am the face of this company. I'm the Safety Manager and Secretary here so I'm the first one they see. So I'm expected to represent the company and give a good impression that will reflect on all of us. I have also been labeled as dingy or ditzy because I am expected to be pleasant and bubbly and approachable. Don't let it get you down. It was said by someone who is unhappy with themselves and jealous of how well you carry yourself and how well you get along with others.

Thanks guys :) I think I can pick out one of the two people who said those things about me.

There is one staff (we'll call her Shirley) who truly HATES me because, long story short, I am firm with certain rules. Our facility is separated into 4 separate "houses", and each of those houses has to grocery shop weekly. The costco card is in my office, and I am responsible for distributing it and keeping track of it. One of my rules is that the card MUST come back to me between each use. The staff may not pass it along to each other. This is because I must keep track of it, and if it goes missing I am the one who has to answer for it. If I can't even tell my manager who had it last, how does that look? Not good.

Well, basically, another staff already had the card and "Shirley" wanted it. I told her that I was sorry, but that someone else (We'll call her Jenny) was in line for the card ahead of her, but that I would call her when it was her turn and that she could take it then. I specified that she was NOT to get the card from the staff that currently had it because "Jenny" was waiting ahead of her. Well, "Shirley" contacted the other staff anyways, took the card, used it, and then had the cajones to bring it back to me and turn it in. To make things worse, "Shirley" contacted "Jenny" and GLOATED. So of course Jenny calls me, frantic and mad as ****. By the time "Shirley" gets to the office she is already on the defense. There were several people around, so I very quietly told her that she shouldn't have done that, and that the card was supposed to have gone to "Jenny". At this "Shirley" decides to get loud. Bobbing her head back and forth, waving her hands around and yelling "I don't see what the freaking problem is!" and a few other choice phrases. At first I was a little taken aback, but I recovered and said (in a normal voice this time), "The problem, Shirley, is that I SPECIFICALLY told you not to do that, I gave you a solid reason why, and you did it anyways. THAT is what the problem is." At this point everyone, including our supervisor, was looking at us. Once she realized this she became very contrite and apologized, but she has despised me ever since. I don't like her much either to be honest.

As for going to my supervisor about the review. I am not really sure what good that will do. My family actually owns the company. My supervisor didn't actually give my review sheet to me, my dad did. And my dad is several steps higher than my supervisor on the company ladder. He did say "Read with caution" when he handed it to me. I don't know if everyone got their review sheets back, or if my dad just wanted to show me mine? I know that I have never seen one before, and I have been working there for almost 3 years. I just changed positions in this last quarter, so maybe he wanted to give me some feedback on how I am doing?

It's possible that's why you got it that way.

As for the Shirley incident, some people think that unless they see a way that they would cause a problem to them, they will disregard rules they don't like or agree with. Shirley didn't care that Jenny was next in line and felt like it would be no big deal if she went ahead of her. It's a bit antisocial of her. I can see why you have to keep track of the card the way you do because if you didn't, people will lose the card or hog it so that it is more difficult for others to use.
