Got My First Marans Egg Today

One of my cuckoo marans started on the 27th of August. Soon followed by a second cuckoo marans. Still waiting for the third one to begin. They were 19 weeks at the time. My BCMs are a little behind the cuckoos, thier combs and wattles are just now beginning to show a little red. But my BCM rooster is the boss

even though the cuckoo roo is much larger than he is. Here's a pic, I'm sure he's not a prize winner but I think he's beautiful and he's great with the hens as well.

He is beautiful. Has he had any luck with the girls? Mine is a bit shy and the older girls chase him off. I love him though. He is a late riser so no neighbors have complained, yet.

He does great with the girls. He's a little enthusiastic in the mornings, but the cuckoos just submit and squat. The BCM hens haven't caught on yet and still scream like they're being killed. He's just now starting to get spurs but I don't think he will be too hard on the hens.

And to the OP, I got a double yolked egg this morning from one of the cuckoos. I can't wait to get the first egg from one of the BCM hens

We have Copper Black Marans and Copper Blue Splash Marans (well, one of each and their babies)

I love them as little chickies. We are hatching more right now since there seems to be a big demand for them around here.

We have chickie pics too. I think they are adorable because they are so big (all our other breeds are bantams). We got some black and white chickies and just a few blue ones.

They really do look like chocolate eggs ! I remember telling one little girl how they lay a chocolate egg and she was thinking about it and wondering and I think she really envisioned a milk-chocolate egg. That's kind of funny --- a chicken laying real milk chocolate eggs. I had to correct myself and say chocolate-colored egg. It was sweet.

Our first eggs were darker and smaller. Now they are much bigger and a little bit lighter in color.

My son said that some of his first Ameraucana eggs were double-yolked. None of our Marans eggs were that I can recall.
