Gotta love a small country town...

Wonderful story! I live in a small community and I love it. Couldn't move me to a city for nothing.

Be careful of trying to be too thankful. Sometimes, it embarrasses folks.

Isn't that the truth? I plan on making quite a bit of preserves, so when I head down to the shop, I plan on just saying something to the effect of - hey, made some preserves and thought you might like a jar.

That's a great story! It's so nice to hear people loving each other in such everyday, ordinary ways...instead of going out of their way to make things unbearable...sounds like our small town...I love it!

I now live in a small town (population 450) and our local hardware store is in the next small town over. It too has everything. People out here apreciate the things that you take the time to do. Try making your "hardware friend" a loaf of bread, or if you have a garden, give him some fresh veggies as a thank you. It will probably mean more to him than if you bought a gift.

When I stopped up this afternoon for 2x2's for fencing in my strawberry patches, he had 3 rolls of 36"x150' 2" hexagon wiring out for $7.99 a roll, on clearance. I bought all three rolls. What a deal!! He said he'd have brought that up, too, if he thought I could use it.

I've decided to use it to fence the garden in a bit higher. Some of the more enterprising (i.e.: stubborn) hens are capable of flying up on to, or over our 4 foot fence around the garden. The 2" hexagons are too big for anything else, but still handy to have around.

If it would EVER quit raining, I'd get my strawberries fenced in. I'll have to get a picture of our wild strawberries. We have two giant patches right out in the middle of the yard. I try to beat my husband to mowing this time of year, or he'll just mow them over. He doesn't like the two "over-grown" areas where I let the strawberries grow, but he sure doesn't complain about the berries!!

Ahh.. I've love to have neighbors or know some friendly people in town!

In popular neighborhoods around here, there are so many trackhomes it's just sad. Neighbors now don't watch out for each other or even say hi. It kills me not living in a smaller town, but sometimes having the conveniences of living in a larger city are hard to give up!

Starshrike - I know what you mean. I lived out West for a time while I was in college, and I do sometimes miss the large availability of restaurants and shops.

I don't miss the noise or pollution, though. I lived in an apartment complex with 800+ units, and didn't even know my neighbors. It's crazy out there.

Now we're so far out, we don't have neighbors, LOL.

At the very least you should make sure you give him all your hardware business. It is a miracle that there are still stores like that around with Home Depots and Lowes all over the place.
