I use spell check all the time on the computer; however I do own a dictionary I used to have my kids look up words they could not spell. I got chewed out by a teacher for not just telling them how to spell it, or let them misspell the word.. Since they did not get counted off for misspelling words or punctuation or grammar as long as they wrote a paper. I started home schooling soon after that.

Well down here we say ya'll and I have been heard to say "ain't" but never would I write it on paper. LOL The thing that makes me most nuts is "I seen..."
Also I really believe you can either spell or you can't. I don't think you can learn to be a good speller (is that a word?)....but yes you can look it up. I have one daughter who can spell really well like I do...the other is like her father and can't spell their way out of a wet paper bag.

Crud: is it ya'll or y'all? I may not sleep tonight...

Ok, so mine isn't the best either

But Australians have accents and when my DD was in school she would get some spelling words wrong because I would "help" her (and her brother) by saying the words out loud and they would write it down.....wrong!

Now, I hate texting and my son insists on sending me texts.....I usually call them back and say...I can tell you faster by phone than I can type on this stupid little keyboard!

Has to be y'all, for you all. I guess.

I've picked up y'all and ain't since moving south, too. My English teacher mother would not approve.

I'm weird... I use "Thee" and "Thou" and add the suffix "-est" or "-eth" to things (mayest, speaketh) in daily conversation. I just like using words like that, with rounded edges and sweeter sounds than the rough sides and sharp turns this modern tongue doth take. Flowery speech hath become a thing of the past, used only in old books and third-rate movies, yet it sounds all the better for its age and for its sweet phonetics.
(Yes, that is really how I talk to people)
