Grammar and spelling are a thing of the past!!!!

I really enjoy writing in Old English. Takes me a few trys to get
it sounding correct. But a lot of fun.

I have to disagree with Rebel Cowboy. In my view, I think that grammer
and the basic ability to read the simpliest things are on the the downslide.
That grading on a curve thing went to far...now it's a complete circle.

I know and interact with several teenagers, even first and second year college
students. There's some you don't want to ask any hard questions. Not all, but
some. And for no reason expect one to be able to count change back to you.

For those of us born here, been here for generations, english shouldn't be that
hard. For the immigrants, or first-generation Americians, I can understand. My
spanish isn't very good. Can't do german.

But for the most part, misspelled words here don't bother me. Unless it was me
that misspelled it. As long as the post can bring across a clear thought, I'm satisfied.
Run on post, unclear train of thought...I find it them hard to read and move along.
No harm, no foul.

That's funny! I was able to read it. Only problem is most times the first and last letter get scrambled!

IMO if the message is clear, and info correct , what the big deal about misspelled words........

Every time I use these words I have to stop and think. I use them correctly, but it takes a minute. I have to think... "I lost = one 'o'".

The schools don't do much on spelling and grammer when you hit high school. I do alot of things wrong when i type but I'm using my phone so much easier. I think for quick texts the short hand is great. Even on fb and chatting. But if you are on a forum you shouldn't use it alot. Not everyone gets it. Took me a while to figure out DH on here.
But there is alot more wrong with the public schools then english. This can't hurt feelings and there is no longer an accurate curve. MOST students should be C not A. C is average. We give our kids false sense of accomplishment this way. I even heard of a school not using red to mark wrong answers. My kids will go to public school for my own reasons but i will work on their personal levels at home. Where their strong suit is I will let it flower. If they are bored at school i will push for thw gifted class.
Oh yeah i know my grammer has much lacking always lost marks on my papers for it lol.

Before you all bash public education too much, my boss sends the "cool-hip" text messages.

If she writes a letter, every word and her grammar is perfect.

Some people adapt their style to fit the media they are using.

My 20 year old son refuses to abbreviate anything for a text message because he feels it is a poor reflection on his abilities.

Personally, I love Google Chrome, because it has spell check built in to anything I type. This is a great thing when you find out I am actually dyslexic. I hate having to use a real pen and paper, it takes me several tries to write and spell something that looks intelligent.

100 years ago the idea that everyone should be able to read was still new.
50 years ago illiteracy was still common.
20 years ago we got very close to 100% literacy.
Most people that graduated high school in the US the last 20 years can read an write English in to different writing styles.
Most in the last 10 years can do all that plus the basics of a second language. They can also type on a qwerty keyboard an know at least 1 type of shorthand.
I miss spell things all the time but I can type English an 2 types of shorthand on 3 different kinds of keyboards, carry on a basic verbal conversation in 2 languages other than my own. I can also understand 2 different 10 code systems an Morse code.

It is not that we are going down hill. People are just more picky about perfection. That's what happens when you forget how it use to be an how good you actually have it.
