for me it depends on the time of year they "go" Lena was in the freezer for 7 months before she got her forever place. And then she went in , in the plastic bags she was wrapped in.

Just out of curiosity how do you do that ?Bury the animal deep the the plant over the top or ? Do you put the animal in something ?

#2 dug a hole big enough for the rose and #1 used a post hole digger to go deeper for Junior. She got a little hay nest and covered with hay as well. Layer of dirt clods and rocks, and the rose will go on top with lots of compost because my soil sucks.
Most hens go up to the farm and put out in the orchard for the critters to clean up.
