Life isn’t fair and I hate that you lost both of them. Especially when it seems Enola didn’t have any health problems.


If you can get a chunk of lung from the calf and put it in water you can find out if it was alive after birth. If it floats then the tissue was filled with oxygen, if not then DOA. But due to unknown time and decomp it may be too late to find out. But you may be able to use this in the future.

Not knowing makes it harder, I think. Did you call a vet? I wonder if there are some tissue samples you can get that can be used to tell you anything.
Was the calf a reasonable size? I was thinking it might be a twin and the unborn twin had a problem.

that was my though as well, BUT to be honest not sure I want to know if I lost her and 2 calves or not.

Evidently even Ma Nature is sad, Started raining around 10 pm last night and has been doing it most of the time ever since. Rain is a good thing as we are 1 3/4 inches short again.

Oh and with everything else that happened yesterday I forgot to mention Robert's water heater (6 or 7 years old) crapped out as well. SO there goes another $600.00 or better.

Well poo. Neighbor just rang the doorbell to tell me she saw a fox running up our driveway... all the hens were screaming so I know it came through to the back. Darn grey fox can climb like a cat, no fence too tall and it's hard to see them up a tree.
Seramas don't get to come out for awhile. They aren't going to be happy.
