Granny's gone and done it again

Anyone good at math?

Administer metronidazole tablet (100mg tablet per kilogram body weight) and penicillin-type antibiotic (50mg tablet per kilogram body weight) twice daily for 4 days

Chicken weights 6 lb = 13.2 kgs
Where did you get this? I don't think you have complete information here. You need to know the dosage per kg of body weight regardless of the amount of mg in each tablet.

http://www.poultrydvm.com/drugs/metronidazole
Dosage 10-50 mg/kg PO q12-24h
This is saying anywhere from 10 to 50mg per kg of body weight. Seems like a big range. That means 30-150mg for a 3kg chicken (6.6 lb bird) which would be one third of a 100 mg tablet at the low end and 1 1/2 tablets at the high end.

What are you trying to cure?

No the pills are 500 mgs.
okay... so then a quarter of a pill would give the chicken 125mg dose. Still don't know how often or for how many days.

The Merck Manual did not give dosage for poultry, so this is probably off label and somewhat experimental? :idunno Might be worth a try.
