I have the same problem, had to go back a page to see this post! If you leave the thread to check another one or pm or something, it will usually return you to the correct spot, but if there were unread posts on the page, it assumes you read them and skips them when it takes you back to the page.



I did not teach for very long in public schools. Worked as a teacher at a residential drug treatment program for adolescent offenders- trying to get their GED. Have not worked teaching since my #1 was born. I could not imagine being around kids all day and then coming home to more needy kids.

I taught middle school too. Just imagine... 150 students every day, hormones coursing through their uncontrollable bodies... imagine a room half full of CBs and half of the females version. It was emotionally draining and I have never wanted to go back. Maybe younger kids some day. maybe. Maybe a nice quiet flower shop or book store...

I couldnt take it.

Neither could I. I was a zombie at the end of the day and spent Sunday's scouring the jobs section of the paper.

Book fair stuff was strictly as a parent volunteer. I volunteered most years but only ran it for 3. Best year we sold $15,000 worth of books in a week. crazy.

She shouldn't spend her own money!  Is the school very large?  Our fair worked well because it was a large school, 450 students and lots of parents would support it.  We had a lot of paperback books, but they would have to be repaired and replaced often, especially popular ones.  Parents would also but books especially for the library or a teacher.  Maybe your mom could hold a book donation-a-thon in the community (new or used books) or hook up with friends of the library. 

Yeah it's a good size. It's just a very poor area. She had to get rid of almost a quarter of the books in the library when she arrived because of mold. We spent 2 months cleaning and organizing the shelves because books were just put wherever. There are some paperback books but they don't get checked out often and the kids tear them apart. If I could use a grant on Amazon I could get so many more books for the money. She had a few donationed last year but the kids aren't big readers so they didn't have books at home. AR has been a struggle because we just don't have enough books for everyone in the level they need.

Did you all just hear a HUGE rush of air? That would be me finally heaving a giant sigh of relief --- it has been a happy day indeed for me!

So, haven't said anything, but I've been going through some pretty major stress for the last couple of months - I had found a lump at the beginning of December, put off dealing with it before Christmas, and was secretly hoping it would just go away...when it didn't I finally had to tell DH and make a doctor's appointment and for the last two weeks have been going through a gauntlet of appointments and tests and scans and, finally, on Tuesday a biopsy.......just got the call back from the breast center that the pathology report came back ALL CLEAR!!!!!

Yes, that AR program can be more of a problem than a benefit.  All of the teachers here have personal books in their classrooms, so the kids could always read those, but it isn't always what they are interested in.  The librarians here at the elementary level are responsible for teaching all the kids at least once a week for about 45 mins or so.  She picked the topics to suit the age and anything they might be studying.  Best was when the kindergarten classes hatched chicks!!! 

Same with our school. She's trying to get it where the kids are in there for more than 10-15 minutes. I keep trying to convince them to hatch some! I told them that I'd supply the eggs! The kids would go nuts!
