Granny's gone and done it again

depends on the size of the bird and how badly they were "shot up" the usual method is to breast them out and then take legs and thighs. Not much else actually has enough meat to "mess" with. I probably should be taking everything the hunters throw in my gut buckets out to the farm and feed to my girls but haven't ever yet

Sandhill Crane is very good Mom tried roasting the whole bird but the legs aren't edible due to all the tendons and such. Wild turkey is also really good tastes like a more intense version of store bought turkey. At least to me

nice looking birds. Have you seen the red golden ? Male

Check out the Lady Amherst, too. I'd love to get a pen of males one day. For pheasants, you can either keep a pen of males or a few males with a lot of females if you want eggs to incubate and hatch out. Otherwise, they scream all the time if they are just a few females and a lot of males.

the golden/red pheasant are BEAUTIFUL not sure how much meat you get off them I think they are more eye candy then a meat bird like the ring-tails are

The pic above is a Sharp-tailed Grouse.

ohh i thought it was the pheasant. LOL I wasnt thinking of a difference in the red vrs the ring

my great-uncle always did trio's of the golden I honestly have no idea what he ever did with the chicks. must have sold them. I do remember their runs being totally fenced on top as well and then little "huts" and other places for the hens to hide from the roo and or build a nest
