Nobody is forgotten. Residents without families are bought for by the employees or by the social dept where there is a fund for such things. We had a large Christmas party for the families and residents. Employees provided refreshments, home baked cookies, cakes, etc. Santa handed out gifts and employees helped distribute them. Everyone had a good time.
We always expected our diabetics to need a lot of insulin that day. They all wheeled back to their rooms with their laps loaded with loot and food with a cookie in their mouths but nobody fussed at them.
The one funny memory I have is the little old lady with Alzheimer's who came by the nurse's station trying to drink a bottle of fingernail polish. Not really funny but yeah, it was, especially the way we scrambled to intercept that bottle before she could do herself damage. Found out how fast two nurses in their 50s could move.
Never could understand why anyone would give a lady with Alzheimer's disease who didn't know her knee from her elbow a manicure set complete with polish remover and polish. It's like...duh.
They always appreciated pretty lap robes, afghans, warm sweaters, socks and the like along with new clothes and bedroom slippers as very few wore shoes.
Funny I've been thinking about the Christmas party where I used to work the last few days. Always a festive time that put you in the Christmas spirit.
Don't worry,
@Granny Hatchet, they will spoil Tom rotten.
