My neighbour has silkies too.... They're house birds now, but when they lived at my place they spent all winter outside and didn't care either.

I put some silkie in my seramas. They claim they cant go below 40 . Mine wintered ok but was a mild winter.

I want seramas, but I'm not providing heat for well over half the year. So, I stick with LF.

Jane , bet you would like to see my lawn. Mostly white clover and when I was out yesterday it was just loaded with honey bees. Someone along this road sells honey. I think I should get a free jar for feeding them . LOLOL

I got a silkie because of the rugrats begging me... Surprisingly, he has all his brains about him and is a fantastic flock protector.

They're just plain too small... Nothing is gonna help. I'd still have to bring them in multiple times thru winter like I do with the OEGB. They can't handle much more than twenty below.

Even at 10 below they get lethargic and just sit there all puffed. Poor biddies. They're over a pound in weight, I'm pretty sure anything smaller would die.

That's why I'm looking forward to an all Chantecler or nearly so flock. No young cockerels to baby thru frostbite every year.
