Granny's gone and done it again

Lots of people love fall weather, Those are the people that can live in the moment I think. I dont enjoy it so much because I see everything dying as it heralds in the bitter cold of winter.
Don't remind me! I have not seen a real winter since we left TN. The part that bugs me the most is the water freezing and you have to bash the tubs and get the ice out for the goats. I need to make some heated bases for the waterers for the chickens and guineas.

with the cooler fall temps comes the rain. seems like I just blinked and the yard went from needing water to the pretty yellows/ oranges and reds of fall. Some hasnt turned yet and others are dropping all their leaves. The smell in the air is the most noticeable thing for me. Everything is crisper, cleaner and such a relief from the heat.
I have good memories of autumn in New Jersey... all the beautiful colors and the smell of the earth. My absolute favorite time of year. Things are slowing down, getting ready for a rest. It's like that lovely time before bed, after a shower and cozy in jammies, looking forward to a well deserved rest. We don't get that here. Every once in a while, I smell the musty odor of fall leaves, and it takes me right back.
