Sorry Larry, happy belated bday!11-6
I experienced an ice storm in PA once, I think it was in 1993. Hope to never experience another one again, yikes!Mi was a lot of snow but this place has beautiful ice storms. We were stranded once. Couldnt get the doors open for a few days and stuck in the driveway for a solid week. Someone brought me supplys to the top of the road. Shoot, couldnt even open the van doors for a while.
Thanks, h2o, good to know! They will start laying after dec 21
YepThis was a knee, right?
no this year. You just have to be patient.Wait, do you mean after Dec 21 next year? 2024? I figured they (the chicks) would start laying around the end of May, 2024. They will be 6 months old then.
These hens should start laying Dec 21st. That's when the days start getting longer. It's also been advised here on BYC to add daylight only to the morning and none to the evening. Something about inviting predators to the coop adding light in the night. I don't understand why but didn't take a chance. Timers that control the light are cheap and automatic.I've decided my chickens have vacationed long enough. I'm starting to add light to both ends of their days and we'll see if we can get them back in production. I'm turning a light on in the hen house at 5 am when I walk Jenny, and turning it off at 7 am. That should give them 14 hours of light.
My baby chicks should arrive Friday.
