Forgot how much he said he buys at a time. If you buy a pallet full, you can get a good discount, but that's like 2000lbs or something.

Thats a lot of food. I wonder if he knows how many ckickens he has . He get a ton of eggs. I priced them at the store today. brown free range is close to $5.00 a dozen.

I should put some of them down. Like the tolbunt rooster who is with the flock but pretty much sits in one spot all the time or the one with the wry neck that looks like the exorcist. the 2 meatys. shoot, thats a lot of food right there. How many do you have Lisa ?

It sure would take a lot of stress off you if you didn't have so many. I have 9 layers between 2 and 4yrs old, and we get enough eggs to supply us, dad, sis, and share with a neighbor or 2 and a couple of carpool moms. I don't even keep track of how often I buy a bag of feed. Maybe one per month while they are laying. They spend the whole day out in the yard picking at stuff, so that helps. Bag of crumbles for the Seramas lasts forever!

At this rate you aren't enjoying your larger flock and they are eating money you could use for chocolate or ice cream or some other necessary food. Would your Amish friend want some of them?

I basically gave a batch away here a few weeks ago. Got a $1 each for 18, but it was costing me more to feed them than they were worth. They were just barnyard mixes that were extras to fill the bator when I was hatching purebreds. Still have a batch to get rid of.

Try to sell them if you can, but at this point they are a burden to you. I think it's very hard to get back what you put in them. I fight impulses to get more all the time. I know I won't enjoy them as much if I have too many, though. That's why I like Seramas. Got 10 and a cochin in one coop that take up less space than 3 big hens. Easy because it's warm here, but I did keep a heat lamp at night when it got into the low 40s.

Night everyone, falling asleep in my chair
