Lots and lots of positive based training for this girl - I would start with some clicker training and do only positive feedback unless it is something that is just absolutely threatening to the safety of the dog or others (and go out of your way to avoid situations where that could become an issue for now to reduce the risk of having to do anything but positive feedback training). On the kitchen issue - is the kitchen flooring different than that throughout the rest of the house? Also, the kitchen is often one of the rooms many will train their dog to see as off limits.

a lot of good advise in just a few words ol mare. thanks. Not wanting to feed and water on the carpet. I will find a small pc. of kitchen flooring and hope she can get used to it a little at a time. put her food on it. as for outside , Leash right? so I dont have to fuss because she wont come. You believe clicker is better then treats then ? How about getting her to come when called ? leash again?

When I got my first newf she had been kept outside for a couple months. She was a house dog before that. Very well behaved. But she didn't like steps or vinyl floor. She wouldn't stand upright on them just sunk down & crawled. She had never been on a flight of steps just 2 or 3. She hated vinyl because it was slippery. I tried something called Tacky Paw. You put it on the feet and it gives them traction. Try a pet store.

Try & let her alone in a room by herself for a little. This is all new to her. Just start sitting in the same room without talking or going near. Just read or watch TV and let her get used to the smells and sounds. Ignore her. Bend over and make yourself smaller instead of hovering over her when you do go near & move slowly. I would then see if maybe the way to her heart is through the stomach. Bacon, cheese, chicken, beef, liver - then you keep sitting putting the treat on the floor closer each day or when she seems comfortable. You will eventually have it in your hand. Don't rush it. Some come around faster than others.

Same with Jewel. It took weeks for her to warm up to us. I was texting all my friends the day she jumped on the sofa next to DS, who was four at the time. She's still skittish around men and jumps at her own shadow. She slinks around like she's lived a long, hard life which I know for a fact is not true because we got her at 6 weeks old. She's just a shy girl.

Adding: I always tell people to ignore her, but they never listen. Only my sweet friend who visited at the end of July took my advice, and within the day they were basically inseparable.

thank you guys for all the good advise. There isnt a pet store around me. LOL wally world and TSC are my choices. No name just got a bath and by the way the water run off it was long over due. I gave her another cup of food . thats 3 for her half for the others. they seem more interested in her tail today then food. She is not far behind. hahaa not far behind.

oh i forgot, when i gace her a shower I had to really drag her across the floor then she got on a throw rug and wouldnt budge. After the shower she figured that floor was the lesser of the two evils and had no problem running across it and out !

she is very lucky to have you granny..i think Lucky is a good name for her...

I think some hounds act like that. My uncle had a beagle that would come to you crawling and peeing. Mom said that dog was never abused but If i am reading right theres really no hound in her. Her breed is supposed to be overbearing . You all know I have 2 weeks right ? Tom keeps looking at her and laughing . like newfie did about a watchdog .. and outside dog.
