Hi there , glad you have joined . What kind of chickens are you starting with ?

Dumb dog is howling at nothing. Having a hard time breaking him of it. Have shock collar he's good when it's on, but when we take it off to charge he doesn't listen to orders.

The other morning when I was taking care of the chicks he just kept running around and around the runs scaring the chicks. When I would call him to come, he would run out into the field and act like he wanted to play chase. Wound you catching him and putting him back in his run, just so I could finish feeding and watering chicks. He is a giant black & tan hound dog. Have not been able to train him very much. Barely two yrs old and thinks he's a puppy. Can't let chickens range while he's out. He's never hurt one but likes chasing. Hasn't caught one but doesn't mean he won't kill if he did. Wish #1DS would finish schooling and get place of own so he can take his dog back.

The only reason I an keeping his dog for him is he provides a service for son. DS was in Navy/Marines was discharged with severe PTSD. Dog usually sleeps with DS and wakes him when ever he starts having nightmares. DS had not really never trained dog. So that's what we've been trying to do.

We went to Rural King and started with 6 RIR (most likely production reds), 1 buff (he's a roo!), 1 white leghorn and 4 ISA Browns (or that's what they were labeled anyhow!). I am loving watching them grow. We have had them 9 weeks now. The reds were getting older and sold for like 50 cents each, so they could be closer to 10 weeks. the others were pretty small. I wish I'd have thought to ask which hatchery they came from, and how old they were when we got them. I was just so stoked to be taking them home that I lost all thought train.

Morning Bee, Hound one of the hardest to train I think. So full of energy. I have heard some wont even start training til they are 2 years. Is he neutered ?

Yes, he's is neutered. I can let him out of run and go into house and won't leave yard. Which is a great improvement, as yard really isn't fenced to keep critters in. More decorative.

Morning all! The internet was out for the last three days, had to use my phone data. Gonna need to catch up on what all went on yesterday...

Welcome any newcomers as well!

I had to rehome a mountain cur not too long ago because he was just too much for me to handle. Lucky he got a good home. He killed a kitten not long after she got him.

Twoacres I did same thing so not sure on ages of my chickens. However, the turkeys and ducks they had just received the shipment that morning. So know their approximate age. Lol
