These are so adorable. Maybe even better than chicken tv! Finally got to see the paint stripe on the male. Female is so adventurous and bouncy! Don't you wish they could stay kids?

Well, I counted. From coop to coop to brooder I have 88 chickens. 4 eggs in lockdown tonight, 15 in the bator, and 11 under a broody.![]()

This may sound like a dumb question, but since I have never used a bator...what does lockdown mean?
Incubation is 21 days. On day 18 we enter "lockdown," which means no more turning the eggs, no more opening the bator, no more candling. We just wait IMPATIENTLY for babies. People say the hens don't go into lockdown, but I've seen a few who went pancake flat and didn't flinch the last few days. Looks like lockdown to me.
