Is the pole barn in a condition that could be converted to a living space?  I know plenty of people who have made a pole barn into a house - whether you did so permanently or just as a temporary to allow you a place to live while you build as you go on your permanent home.

I need to figure out where to research that. I'm not against it at all.

Hate to post and run, but I think I have decided that today is a day for exploration and venturing to a new area. Started the day by taking Z over to a nearby dog park (we got spoiled while we were staying at my sister's place as there was a great park about 5 minutes from the house - plus Z got used to having a built in playmate in my niece's dog and seems a bit bored/lonely now that we're back to just us), it is a BEAUTIFUL COOL morning here so can't waste that, lol. DH and DS are over at the in-laws this morning doing some work in FIL's wood shop (their proximity is one of the things I am working hardest on adjusting to -- originally we had talked about living part way between the two families - about 2 1/2 hours apart - and yet we ended up landing barely a mile away from the in-laws, I am really trying to be a good sport about that, lol) so suppose that means I get to have a day to myself.......

Hope you all find that today is the beginning of a wonderful week.

If it's like CA there, so many regulations and permits needed, makes it more difficult and expensive than you expect. They might be better off finding an older house that needs fixing up. The water, electric, and septic will already be done. All those things add up quickly cost wise. It's going to be more expensive to start doing it that way, but may actually save money in the long run.

If you guys do any research... I'm looking to live in rainier or yelm Washington. I need to get out of Lacey! Lol

Rainier or Yelm. Sounds good. Are you going to look around for a part time job? I've always wanted to work somewhere peaceful, without kids or lots of noise... flower shop... library... cemetery!

I'm not sure yet. My most favorite job I ever had was as a barista. My body can't take grocery work any more... I've been thinking about a book store or comic shop kind of gig.
