None of my hens hold their wings down like the males. They're pretty, but not going to win any shows. The only pullet from this year that looked really promising got injured somehow. She can walk ok now, but almost falls over when she tries to scratch. Before that, she was standing up really tall with her tail straight up, almost no back, nice big chest too. Now she looks like the others.

well, the breed is all new to me. I dont know how any of them should look. I either like it or i dont. lol I caved and made gravy and biskits. fried spam and eggs. just missing the apples. I didnt put any up this yr. I havent been out to check on the chickens yet. the sun is shining and has melted the frost. guess i should go do that.

THANKYOU for the info on the ee-gers. Mine all have the muffs &most if not all pea combs. They were delivered april 28. The most curous of my 4 breeds.. ARGH BYC back at it. I think it has to do with the viedo adds.

checked yesterday afternoon and this afternoon. so 2 in 24 I have her egg in the bator , its the only other one i have gotten from her. I can candle it tonight and see if it is fertile or not. if it is i may put these 2 in as well. I dont look for it to be though. she dont act like she cares for him so much. My new rooster on the other hand (sweedish) dont care one bit if the ladies like him or not but the most of them are on his every step. the water heater is up and running tonight so all is ready for ol man winter. Except for me of course. my pain level is getting a bit too high for me. all I did was walk to the coop and back and i am miserable.

Yay! :weee
You can tell if it's Firtle by candling? Wow that's amazing! I have a hard time on some of them cracked open. You might want to give it a week and look for veins to be sure.

I so messed up on that post. no, i dont have xray vision. LOL what i meant was, i got my first egg from her a week ago and put it in the bator. I would candle it to see if it might be fertile and if it was then i would maybe put these 2 new ones in. And i am still saying it wrong !!

so i am back to 4 eggs with one being a week behind the other 3 and 2 new ones in there. I am sorry for the confusion.

Granny, your little hen might have been in with another older rooster with more experience, if ya know what I mean.

since i have found it to be fertile i am going to think you are right. i will try to find out for sure. sucks the one died and i think it is unusual for that to happen. i will have to read on that too. I know what i am going to do every time she lays i will be skipping to the bator as fast as my hobble will allow me to. I am going to have scattered hatches all winter.

I didnt open the dead one because its cold out but i could pretty much tell it was about 7 days old. you could see 2 black places and the little bit in between. the eye was plain as well as a very tiny beak. not sure what the other black spot was. maybe a quarter inch long. and again a blood ring but not as defined . it was alive at last candle. trying to remember when that was.

Granny your incubator being too hot could have killed that chick. You really need to get a new thermometer.

I killed about 4 dozen eggs last summer because my thermometer went wonky. I didn't figure it out until I bought the new thermometer.
