My new chicks are just at 3 mos old. I'm curious to see if my broody tried to adopt them? That's not much older than the SS chicks I think. I can't remember his old they are. 5-6 weeks by the feathers maybe?
 
I was thinking about putting my small Brahma with my new chicks. She's very friendly. Bottom of the pecking order. How old do the chicks need to be before I try it?

Sorry about Ben. I always take it personally and feel like a terrible parent when one of my animals does something like that.

He'll get it eventually. I saw Cesar Millan (Dog Whisperer guy) do some avoidance work with a dog that wanted to eat small animals. Dog was leashed, in down position, and the critter held near the dog. Dog was supposed to turn away from the pet to get positive reinforcement. Might be worth trying your "leave it" command in a more controlled situation like that.

Glad you still have too many Sussex.
