That's a fair old whack he's given it with having swelling and it purple. Elevation and cold on it should bring swelling down.
Hope he's better soon and you have your helper back. Could Robert not give you a little hand with the water? Don't want Nick nacking yourself right up

My SLW were pink. I took home paint swatches to compare them to. I have had RIR hens that laid pukey brown ones though.

I have pinkish eggs too. didnt know who was laying them. Could be different breeders have different strains.

Twist, after much thought, my favorite breed of hen is an EE/Leghorn cross. They start laying young, lay cored eggs, have a great feed conversion and lay lots of eggs. The young roosters aren't worth a crap, but I sell mine to Mexicans. I don't raise them out. I have never had problems with egg bound, internal laying or crop problems with them either. And everyone of them looks different!
