I don't keep it from freezing. Carrying fresh water several times a day gives me exercise and plenty of brisk fresh air (insert sarcasm here).

I think I will try to make a cookie tin heater for this year.

Ya'll are better than me. I just don't have the time for that and I only have 17 in 1 coop!

I was feeling so good I forgot what I was doing and lifted the full size refrigerator to straighten the loose vinyl floor. Took 3 tries and it is stuck.

Do you know how great it felt to actually do something normal without being out of breath or heart hurting?

I will have the Dr check the tiny lump where the catheter went in. Not supposed to be doing that sort of work yet, it's only been 10 days.

Spent the day with hubby and made candy. No decorations out yet.

Got the Internet hooked up today. The computers (2) don't work. The cord has disappeared for the laptop. I will wait for a kid to visit and beg them to fix one. Until then I have my phone. Sigh.

Speaking about illegal pesticides, my brother, who lives in the house that was formerly our grandparents, used some leftover ant spray he found in the garage. He was amazed how great it worked. We looked up the active ingredient, and it was banned in the 70s! He looked on the bottle and found a Kmart price sticker for 25¢!

We are 3rd generation packrats! My poor kids are 4th generation on both sides!

The bantam coop is small. Not deep litter, but rice hulls which the mites don't like. The coop was sprayed a few months ago with flea spray for dog bedding, so I think cleaning the nest boxes will suffice. Northern fowl mites can only live on the birds, so you have to treat the birds. Lady at a Serama show told me to use a drop of Frontline (for cats, some people say dogs) on a patch of bare skin. Works like a charm. We toss the eggs for a while. Stupid Frontline doesn't kill fleas anymore, but the mites die. It's risky, but we don't eat these birds, and they are so small, mites can wipe them out pretty quick. Nothing else I tried did any good.
I'm curious...to kill mites on the bird if you could use liquid ivermectin? I used on the canaries for air sac mites.
