Wishing, Soft cast ? would that be a cotton wrap so he could still bend ?

Just a soft packing with splints or folded cardboard to keep it mostly immobile. You want to keep as much good circulations as possible around the injury so it can heal more quickly. He might limp, but there's a chance for him to walk again. I have heard of amazing things with chickens. Maybe have the leg slightly bent in case it freezes in that position. Think it would be easier for him than freezing totally straight out.

he is on one foot and one knee

I got my van in Mi. so its rusted up pretty good. Tom says the cold air comes through the door  on his legs and freezes him.  LOL its a 2000 mercury villager  we have had it for 10 yrs.

Oh so it's a Nissan Quest then.

I'd grab some great stuff, that yellow foam stuff for your van
Yeppers & buy some duck tape the same color of the van & tape over the rusted out area that you fill with the foam. Make sure to trim off the bumps so its somewhat flat. That's how I fixed my 98 Cavilar rust out door runners. No more winter weather blowing in. Of course I did do the duct tape job in warm weather so it adhered good. Gave the car to my dd when my other dd gave me her older Toyota a few years back. Tape is still sticking :gig

Yeah, I would just splint the knee side and hang him up for a while, if you can manage it. Or would that be too cold for him? If you can fence him in a corner or have a dog kennel... anything to keep him still and protected.
