NO coco powder. Does same thing as sugar . Personally I always use sugar intensifies the ripe tomato flavor.

grits is just cream of wheat or malt-o-meal  that they were to lazy to grind fine.   LOL 

Don't know what malt a meal is and I've never tried cream of wheat.
