Speaking of...

This is the "loft" of the a-frame tractor. How do y'all suggest I devise a roost and nest box up there? I have scrap timber and 2x4s.

Maybe a "lean-to" nest with a curtain? Roost down the length or across?

This just for the 2 Honas? Not sure about a roost. Doesn't look like you have easy attachment points. Maybe build a mini-sawhorse type roost you can just set in and remove for cleaning. Or maybe hang a roost from the peak of the A-frame. Nest box can be a cardboard box sitting on the loft floor.

Luckily I keep my 24" quilting ruler under lock and key. The loft is 30" across, not quite 24" high, and 44" deep.

I agree, no roost. maybe a small nesting box on the ground, or off one end, closer to the ground. I think if you put it in the loft, you're gonna have poopy eggs.

My theory on that is similar to getting more sleep and feeling more tired, because you've had enough sleep to realize how tired you are! Days off work the same. The stress from work always keeps you amped up, and when you have an extra day to relax, you get to feel how exhausted you've been. Ain't stress wonderful? You need a vacation. Come to California! The whales are migrating!

You think she'll lay in a box in the tractor? Maybe I'll give her some options.

If I don't put a roost then they just sleep in their poop. It just needs to be up a few inches.

I'm brainstorming a thing... We'll see if I get it working. ;)

lay a 2x4 edgeways to elevate them some. but anything you put in there will make cleaning it more difficult.

I would hang the nesting box off one end, but just about 6" above the bottom of the bottom level.

you have a pic of the whole thing, and not just the loft?

camping, I think I'd lose the loft decking entirely, and let them roost on the frame holding it up.

you have weather similar to mine, and an open type roost would work, especially if that area is blocked form the colder winds. I'd still hang the nesting box off the opposite end of the tractor from the roost area.
