According to SpeckeldHen, 4-6 months is when she starts seeing fertile eggs. Doing the deed and fulfilling his role are not necessarily the same thing. They can start mating sooner, but fertility is questionable.

Little Jerry was about 5 months when he started... He started messing with the big girls first who would flog him and then the younger girls when they started laying.... The younger girls are the same age as he is... He's got two favorites... They have bald backs because of him... It took a bit for him toclaim complete dominance over the entire flock.

Does Little Jerry get a name upgrade since he's the man now? Big Jerry? Full-of-himself Jerry?

It's pretty neat to watch the family dynamics when he realizes what his role is.... Jerry perches high during all storms to watch out for them.... Feeds them tidbits by making a weird noise and will cocadoodle do at everything. Lol

I have one tiny Serama rooster, Mo. He's the same way. When the big girls go up by the bantam coop he start's screeching up a storm. He's chased off a big Orpington , but she's a sweet girl. Some of the others gave him a bloody comb, so now he corrals up his flock and stays in between. Very cute how excited he gets when he finds a treat. Such high expectations! Unfortunately, he's so small, if a hen doesn't want him, there's not much he can do about it. He's got 9 to take care of.
