Hi Tippy! Hi Granny!!

Has anyone ever let chicks be raised with the whole flock, or am I asking for trouble? Each broody will want a baby, so maybe I can take the roosts out and make the entire coop a brooder. There's already a heat lamp for them. Any ideas about this?

You can see they are too small to get out of the nests by themselves.

The entire inside is about 3x5, not including the nests. If I take the roosts out and everybody has to sleep on the floor with the babies, would that work?

I can say that I have no idea!

glowing ? look at my jabber. it will show you what to look for on which day.
I have been messing with my bator. I enlarged the air holes and added a few more. plenty of air Im sure. Put the other egg turner in and now have slots for 73 eggs.

I added a light to the bottom that will keep temps more even. My bulb is too strong. Hoping I can pick a 15 watt up tomorrow. I took the heating element down and centered the fan a bit better so may not even need heat light bulb. If not I will use one that dont throw heat. Waiting for temps to stabilize now.

That's a lot of chicks! Will you sell them?

I guess I've only candled after day 10, where the egg looks mostly dark except for the air sac. Ones that weren't developing glowed orange like the first day ones. I didn't look very carefully because there's nothing I can do about it. No adjustments to make unless I can hook a thermostat to a hen!

x2 , I wouldnt advise one way or the other. guess it depends on how bad you want them and if your willing to take a chance. I feel like they would fight over them.

I dont know if they will put the ban back or not. Its in In. already. I sure dont have room for them and not even the ones I am wanting to hatch. Just want to make sure its working ok. (bird flu)

I could just steal them all and raise them by hand in the garage!

Maybe pick the 2 best hens to help or use the old heating pad brooder. Stealing them doesn't seem fair to the hens, though. Oooo, I have a little cage and could keep them in the house. Just for awhile. I'm getting all excited, and it may be for nothing. Getting dark soon and I will candle.

I just have the one little rooster. He doesn't crow too much, and during the height of summer, I put him in the garage at night. More than one and they get in a crowing war.
