Morning Loko,
I have been off in the unanswered threads. Those are fun sometimes. wanted to ask you last night how many chickens you are up to now ? then quail ? I really want to hatch,try/ some quail. If I happen to find eggs will you mind if I pick your brain ? a lot ?

Right now I only have 6 laying hens
14 juveniles and 5 in the brooder
Quail I am right around 50, I ate some the other day

15 or so of those quail will be laying any day/week now

Really looking forward to putting them in trios/quartets to breed for size.
Some of these are already a lil bigger than thier parents!

do you skin them ? I can see where they could run rampant after a few months. Do you skin or pluck ?

Babies are good. They were shivering this morning, so we're going to keep them on the porch at nights, where it's a little warmer. And I'll move them back mid morning.

Chickens have pooped in all sorts of inconvenient places. I'm going to have to put up a few little roofs. But I had three eggs in the box last night!

They were acting cold, too. Guess it was warmer with them all crammed into the tiny coop.

  do you skin them ?  I can see where they could run rampant after a few months.  Do you skin or pluck ?

Oh I definitely skin em
I'm too lazy to pluck em, plus the skin is sooo much thinner than a chicken.

I basically cut off the head, then legs and wingtip.
Rip/cut out spine, and split em in half.

camping, I am looking for a way to reuse my feed sacks . Wonder how that would be in your coop stapled to the inside walls ? goats would probably eat them but maybe a corner for the chickens to block some wind ?

Loko, I am not all the way understanding "rip the back bone out". and do you not cook the legs ??

fell out for a little disco nap, was still pretty early, even for me. I think one of the last times we did quail I made a spicey plum demi glaze, I'll check my notes. I think apricot might just work.
