Ash survived the night. I put her on the porch under a heat lamp. It stayed around 70 degrees that way. I've still got her in the crate with a cup of electrolytes. She's standing up and laying down, keeping her eyes closed either way. I'll just keep her like this? I'll give her eggs later.

We're going to get our passports today! :weee

Go Ash! Recovery can be difficult after they pass a certain point. Ash sounds borderline. You might want to contact Kathy (casportpony) about this. Depending on how much Ash is drinking on her own and how much weight she has on her, you may want to tube her. A little sugar in the electrolyte solution wouldn't hurt. Once she it hydrated, she will need some calories/energy for healing. Problem is, you don't want her to have a crop full of food she is not able to digest. If her recovery is stalled, you have decide if she needs more time or needs food. If her eyes are closed, she won't be eating on her own, but I'd put a small dish of food near her, just in case.

I wish I had weighed her last weekend. She and Ember (half sisters) were my two heaviest chickens. Ember is still pretty heavy, but Ash is much lighter. Maybe I can use Ember as a guide for Ash.

Ember is half australorp half sussex.
Ash is half orpington half sussex.

I think they got the weight from the sussex, because both are heavier than their mothers.

Do you think she'd do better or worse back in the coop? She drank quite a bit on her own yesterday in the coop. Like a whole dog dish, and then from the waterer. Maybe she's just resting today. The cup I gave her is a ceramic tea cup, so I can get a better idea of how much she's drinking.

Sorry camping, I was off researching on another tab. Personally, I think they are more comfortable with the flock that they know, but they also expend energy hiding their illness from the rest of the group. Until she's a little perkier, I would keep her isolated, so all her energy can go to healing. Does she have any interest in food? Try some easily digestible treats. A little sugar water might perk her up enough to want to eat. Hope she improves!

Have fun with the passports. Make sure you have all the stuff needed or they will make you come back!

That emu egg is a sight!! I was thinking it was a giant horse pill at first!

These are the awkward boys hugs I usually get. Still full of love, though!
